Half Way There…

Last night a group of us hit the pavement for a 6 mile run.  It was 9:00pm, 46 degrees, and amazing!!! Last week I hit 4 miles and was incredibly proud.  I hurt my ankle so I stopped running for  a few days hoping it would heal.  Last night, hearing the MapMyRun app declare 6 miles finished, was music to my ears.  6 miles in 1 hour 2 minutes!  I am proud to say that I am almost half way to my goal of 13.1 and the feeling is like nothing I’ve ever felt before.

Although I am happy to have finished 6 miles, it didn’t come without consequence.  The second we stopped running, a horrible tightness took over my body.  Definitely bearable but it didn’t feel all that great.  When I got in the shower I was met with a stinging sensation that almost took my breathe away.  A horrible rash, where apparently my sports bra rubbed my skin raw.  And this morning I woke up to a tight and painful ankle.  But right now, as I write and drink my coffee, I can’t help but smile.  I am at a place in life that I never thought I would be.

If you would have told me a month and a half ago that I would be able to run 6 miles I would have laughed.  But today I am so much closer to a life goal.  One that will improve my health and my attitude.  Running has become a game.  A game that I will win. When I began this journey my goal was to finish the half marathon simply running more than I walked.  But now my goal has changed.  I will run all 13.1 miles.  January 5th is 55 days away and I am becoming more anxious, excited, and determined every time I step outside to run.

To everyone who is thinking about running a half-marathon, DO IT, if your body is able.  It is something that will positively impact your life.  Accomplishing a little bit at a time is life changing and hitting milestones will bring a positivity that you haven’t experienced before.  I encourage you to try.  I encourage you to run.  I encourage you to keep working even in the presence of hurt ankles, tight muscles and sports bra rashes.  Good Luck!  It’s never too late to make the decision to better your life.

  1. I am running a half on Jan 5th too…I think I should practice running at 9pm like you are!!!
