Two weeks ago I had my first piece of writing published. I now have a column in my home town’s newspaper writing about the amazing individuals who grew up here but aren’t receiving the recognition they deserve for what they are doing with their lives. The goal is to show the community that great people come from their town and with hard work, they too can make a difference. Inspiring people to do better is something I’ve always worked towards. This is a new and different way of doing just that. I have spent the majority of my life writing stories, poems, and opinion pieces that have been posted on my personal blog or written with a pen in my writing journal. No one other than family and some friends have even cared to read my work. But writing is therapy for me so my lack of followers didn’t keep me from doing what I love. It is a way to express myself in a beautiful way. I am able to write about the amazing people that have grown up in the same city as me. I get to sit down with them and learn about their passions in life. I am continually inspired by these people and I am lucky to be able to write about them and shine light on the wonderful things they do.
If you know someone who grew up in Fontana, Ca, that is doing great things for themselves and the community, please email me and let me know. I would love to meet with them and write about their story. Anyone who works hard to make a difference in the lives of others deserves to be featured in some way. We do not give enough credit to the people who are doing good things and I have made it my mission to seek these people out and let others know who they are.
I’m proud that my first official writing job is one where I get to give others credit for doing great things. It is very fulfilling when they read my words describing the work that they do. I think having an article written solely about yourself is a great accomplishment and I’m happy to give that to the people who deserve it.
